Bucatini is a more substantial spaghetti with a hole all the way down its length. The name comes from the Italian for hole or pierced bucato. The hole is there to ensure an even cooking as the boiling water penetrates the pasta and cooks it from the inside.

The name comes from the word buco meaning hole. Like spaghetti and linguini, this past is best with a tomato style sauce, but like most pastas its good with other sauces as well.
